Knot Floer homology is an invariant of knots in the three-sphere, defined
using methods of symplectic geometry. I will describe the construction of
this knot invariant, sketch some of its topological applications, and
describe some combinatorial methods for computing it. I will not assume
any previous knowledge of these constructions.
