SUMMARY:Kazhdan seminar: Ehud Hrushovski and Itay Kaplan - Topics in Model Theory
DESCRIPTION:NOTE UNUSUAL DAY\n*Link:*Topics in Model Theory (Teams) [1]\n0.1. Provisional syllabus. This course is intended to cover three main \nresults.\nThey neighbour a large number of existing theorems and concepts that there is\nno room to detail here, and I will try to learn and explain some connections. \nSee\n[1] and [2], and references there for adjacent material. The proof of (3) \ndepends\nlogically on (2), and (2) on (1); but we may cover them in reverse order.\n1) The Hausdorff core of a theory.\nThis is a construction of a compact topological structure J canonically \nassociated\nwith a given theory T, along with a compact automorphism group G acting\non it. One view way to view G is as the group of self-interpretations of a \ncanonical\nminimal expansion of the theory enjoying a structural Ramsey property. Thus\nfor instance the proof of Ramsey’s original theorem requires the use of a \nlinear\nordering <; it shows that the theory of a structureless infinite set becomes \nRamsey\nupon adding < to the language. Here G is th...
