DESCRIPTION:Speaker:Michael Chapman (HUJI)\nTitle: Cutoff: new results and new methods.\nAbstract: In recent years, random walks on simplicial complexes proved \nextremely useful. Theywere used, for example, to uniformly sample matroid \nbases, and to define high dimensional analogues of expansion. Meanwhile, the \ncutoff phenomenon for random walks receivedlots of attention as well. A \nrandom walk exhibits the cutoff phenomenon if the transition from being far \nfrom mixed to being very mixed happens (relatively) abruptly.\nIn this talk we plan to:\n * Survey cutoff results and proof methods for graphs and for quotients of\n Bruhat-Tits buildings.\n * Discuss generalizations of a recent entropic approach due to Ozawa.\n * Apply these generalizations to Ramanujan complexesthat were not known\n previously to exhibit cutoff.\n * Deduce cutoff results on Cayley graphs arising from high dimensional\n theory.\n\nThis talk is based on a joint work with Ori Parzanchevski and Yuval Peled.\nZOOM details:\nLink\nhttps://huji.zoom.us/j/82813...
