Title: Representation stability - using category theory to transfer information between representations of varying groups
Abstract: Many natural sequences of problems in topology, arithmetic and combinatorics reduce to studying a sequence of representations of increasingly complicated groups. Using the language of category theory and functors, a sequence of representations of different groups assembles into a single algebraic object and allows for transfer of information from representations of small groups to larger ones. This approach is at the heart of the relatively recent field of Representation Stability. We will discuss examples of this theory, and applications to factorization statistic of polynomials, matrices and cohomology of moduli of spaces of curves.
