Title: Elekes-Szabo and sum-products


Abstract: 
The Elekes-Szabo Theorem gives an upper bound for the intersection of a suitably non-degenerate surface with a Cartesian product. In this talk we will discuss some constructions where this intersection can be fairly large, some quantitative improvements to the known bounds, and how these theorems can be used to give applications in sum-product theory.
