Abstract:

Kapranov’s theorem is a foundationalresult in tropical geometry. In this talk we will discuss developments towardsunderstanding a generalised hyperfield version of Kapranov’s Theorem. We willestablish the relevant building blocks from the algebraic setting ofhyperfields, which allow addition to be multivalued operation. We will thenintroduce Relatively Algebraically Closed (RAC) hyperfield homomorphisms. Thisproperty is the key tool leveraged to formulate a generalised version ofKapranov’s theorem. I will present examples of RAC maps and describe theprogress towards the classification of this property.

Thiswill contain joint work with Ben Smith (Manchester).
