Title: Discriminantsof polynomial systems

Abstract: The space of all systems of polynomialequations with prescribed Newton polytopes contains the discriminant - the setof all systems with a degenerate root. The study of such discriminants (socalled A-discriminants) was initiated by Gelfand, Kapranov, Zelevinsky andSturmfels in 1990th. We make a review of existing results about the structureof discriminants and provide a conjecture about its number of irreduciblecomponents and their codimensions for tuples of Newton polytopes with positivemixed volume.
