Abstract: Following the philosophy of von-Neumann, operator algebra have been used to shed light on various theories in Mathematics and Physics. We will showcase one fantastic application of the theory of operator algebras in topological dynamical systems, namely the classification of Cantor minimal systems up to (strong) orbit equivalence via dimension groups. I will present a completely dynamic-theoretic proof, and explain how ideas for the proof arise from operator algebras.
