Abstract:
An aztec diamond is a 45 degrees rotated square (i.e., a diamond), composed of grid squares:

Choosing a tiling of the diamond with 1×2 domino tiles reveals an interesting pattern: the dominoes behave randomly in the inscribed circle of the diamond, and are predetermined outside it. In the talk I will explain the dynamical and probabilistic aspects of the proof.
