Title:
Unique Ergodicity of the Horocycle Flow on Compact Hyperbolic Surfaces
Abstract:
In this talk, we will revisit Hillel Furstenberg’s original 1972 proof of the unique ergodicity of the horocycle flow on compact hyperbolic surfaces—one of the foundational results in homogeneous dynamics. While the theorem has since been generalized through more advanced techniques (most notably via Ratner’s theorems), Furstenberg’s approach uses classical harmonic analysis.
