Abstract:
A fundamental topic in geometric group theory is the study of the "growth" of a finitely generated group G, which is a function f(n) measuring the number of elements in a radius n ball in the Cayley graph of G.
It seems interesting to compare the growth of a group G to the growth of its subgroups. And this leads to a number of amusing problems. I will give a quick survey about growth, and about "growth gaps" in finitely generated groups.
