Title: Stable norms, laminations and horocycle dynamics II

Abstract: The dynamics of horocycle flow in hyperbolic manifolds of finite volume has been well understood since the work of Hedlund in the 1930's. This flow and its various generalizations play a crucial role in dynamics in homogeneous spaces. The infinite volume case is less well understood, and admits a wider variety of different phenomena. In the case of manifolds that are covers of compact ones with abelian deck group, the question becomes tightly connected to an optimization problem for Lipschitz functions, and the geometry of their maximal stretch laminations. I will discuss some work on this with J. Farre and O. Landesberg, which in many cases leads to an interesting classification theory for orbit closures.
