Title: combinatorial Hodge and Lefschetz theory

Abstract: combinatorial Hodge and Lefschetz theories originate with McMullens combinatorial proof of the Hard Lefschetz theorem for toric varieties, but have since been developing a life beyond just "combinatorial proofs". Indeed, they have been applied to situations where classically, no algebraic geometry exists. I will survey the theory and some of its applications.
