The Morse complexity of a manifold is the smallest number of critical points there is for any Morse function on the manifold.  (In dimension 3, this is essentially the same thing as the Heegard genus.)  I will try to explain the connection of Morse complexity to bordism and use this to explore a question of Gromov.
