Second talk of the series
Title: Dream resolutions and principalization
Abstract:
I'll talk about the resolution algorithm (in char=0) discovered in my work with Abramovich and Wlodarczyk, which iteratively blows up weighted (or tubular) centers with the largest invariant. In particular, this is a memoryless resolution algorithm by simple basic operations. The price one has to pay is that the blowings up must be combined with imposing a root stack structure along the exceptional divisor and I will explain why such an algorithm does not exist in the category of schemes.
This is planned to be the first of two or three talks. Further topics may include generalization to log schemes and/or morphisms.
