Title: Totally Ergodic Systems with Quasi-Discrete Spectrum

Abstract:
Systems with quasi-discrete spectrum (QDS) were introduced by Abramov as a generalization of Kronecker systems. Instead of being generated by eigenfunctions, the $L^2$-space of a system with QDS is generated by higher-order quasi-eigenfunctions. In particular, totally ergodic systems with quasi-discrete spectrum are isomorphic to affine transformations on compact abelian groups. In this talk, I will present an algebraic classification of the factors of such systems, based on the work of Haase and Moriakov, which refines and extends earlier results of Hahn and Parry.
