Postdoc Scholarship

Azrieli

For the 2024-25 academic year at HUJI:

Azrieli International Postdoctoral Fellowship:

  • Requirements:  postdoc applicants from abroad, interested in conducting research in Israel, at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. This year, the fellowship has opened its eligibility on a worldwide scale.
  • Submission: Candidates are independently responsible for the arrangement of institutional affiliations with the Hebrew University, including securing a potential host and developing a research plan for the proposed visit.  
  • Funding: Annual scholarship of €53,000 (ILS 188,000) to cover living and research expenses (NIS 14,000 per month + NIS 20,000 for research expenses). The funding is provided for two years, with the potential to extend the scholarship for a third year on the basis of excellence.

  • Deadline: The online application opens September 1, 2023, and closes November 15, 2023.

Lady Davis

Lady Davis: Eligible after at most 5 years since Ph.D.

IASH fellowships

IASH fellowships: Eligible after at most 4 years since Ph.D, application is submitted through the sponsor.

Rothschild Fellowships

Candidates must be permanent residents of Israel who received a PhD at an accredited institution of higher learning in Israel no more than three years prior to submission of the application. 

Nominations for Fellowships are submitted to the Foundation by Israeli universities only. Candidates must comply with the requirements and application process as determined by the nominating university.

Fulbright Fellowships for Postdoctoral Scholars

Who: Fulbright foundation.

For the 2024-25 academic year at HUJI:

Fulbright Postdoctoral Fellowships (up to 2 academic years):

  • Requirements: U.S. postdoctoral scholars who seek to pursue research in Israel, at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
  • Submission: Candidates are independently responsible for the arrangement of institutional affiliations with the Hebrew University, including securing a potential host and developing a research plan for the proposed visit.  
  • Funding: $95,000 for two years ($47,500 per year), reimbursement of U.S.-Israel airfare expenses for Fulbright fellows (and spouses), partial reimbursement of children’s education expenses, and additional relocation reimbursement of up to $9,000 granted by The Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Zuckerman STEM Leadership Program for Postdoctoral Scholars

 

Call for Applications 2023-2024:

The Zuckerman STEM Leadership Program

  • Requirements: Eligible after at most 5 years since Ph.D.
  • Submission: Curriculum vitae, List of at least three publications, Written confirmation that the candidate is entitled to a PhD degree and the date it was awarded, Research proposal, Letter of acceptance to a postdoctoral program at an American university that includes a stipend for work and study, Letter of consent from a potential hosting supervisor from the American university, Three letters of recommendation, Personal statement detailing the candidate’s future career plans, A simplified 200-word description of intended research. 
  • Funding: Zuckerman Israeli Postdoctoral Scholarships are awarded for up to two years. Zuckerman Israeli Postdoctoral Scholars receive a stipend of $20,000 per academic year, plus a $5,000 travel allowance to return to Israel once per academic year during their postdoctoral appointment.

Excellence Fellowship Program for Postdoctoral Researchers

Who: The Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities.

For the 2023-24 academic year at HUJI:

20 Postdoctoral Fellowships (up to 2 academic years):

  • Requirements: U.S. postdoctoral scholars who seek to pursue research in Israel, at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
  • Submission: Candidates are independently responsible for the arrangement of institutional affiliations with the Hebrew University, including securing a potential host and developing a research plan for the proposed visit.  
  • Funding: 160,000 NIS (~$47,000) per year. 50% paid by host, no overhead. Additional funding by researcher is OK.
  • Deadline: 1 October, 2022
